Last post, A new chapter begins...

Chael Sonnen won his fight last night, I was so happy! I'm really inspired to try and get myself back to top fitness. I forgot how exciting a fight can be... My days off from work is today and tomorrow, I'm going to try and make the most of them, get some headway on my script, schedules for webseries I keep thinking of quittting, workout a little and clean up the house and bits and pieces so we can move.

I'm going to do 2 blogs from now on,

It'soncamera.blogspot.com is for other independent/up and coming actors/directors looking for tips I get from experience.

and

Mattisready.blogspot.com for My Chapter3: chasing ghosts, a continuation of my exploits of following my sometimes stupid dream of wanting to be an action star,

To Summarize, I started these blogs in order to write a book when I get famous of How I got there, my memories crap so I decided to write a blog as I tried making this thing happen. Chapter One I dabbled with camera's and the idea, Chapter 2 I made the commitment to move to Auckland, moved and studied film at SAE and did some actual work in the extra industry and do a few short films but now for Chapter3 - Actually doing a feature film no matter how low a budget, how constrained for time/quality equipment/cast etc and becoming an official Professional. As in, paid to do acting/directing work of an action film.

I want to be making enough passive income to quit my job and do this acting/directing/producing thing full time. Each day that passes makes me feel closer to giving up my dream, I feel it slipping away with each morning meeting, each bill payment, each new quarter....And I can't let that- I WON'T let that happen, attitude is everything, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain...Thanks for your visits to my blog...I hope you get something from it....My next chapters will be written in a more personal cavalier style so it doesnt come across so third personish....I want you to feel as if you know me (for those that dont actually know me) so when you see my movies you'll know that I'm the guy who wrote these....

Thanks again, and see you on my new blogs!! :)

No more mucking around, it's business time...

July/August Update - Parnell Rise, Emperor, Training.

Since my trip to Sydney 2 months ago I have been pretty much focused on work, keeping my work results good and tidying up my lifestyle so its clean/efficient, cutting out debt and sugary/fatty foods and returning to full fitness. So yeah, not too much time to devote to my cause at the moment, however, I am slowly working on things, productive and inching towards my goal when I can, because a dream without action is only a dream....

So BAM ! Parnell Rise (formerly Ivy investigation) has finally started filming! :) So happy, more info on BTS of the production can be found at www.parnellrise.blogspot.co.nz but I have shared a couple things below, a promo wallpaper and a screenshot from editing Episode one, I just have to add sound effects, shoot Anna's mom scene and do titles and episode one is done. I'm currently working on a shooting schedule for the rest as finding cast memebers who are available when I'm available and can work for free is a bit of a mission, but hey, if it was easy eveywone would be doing it ;)

From visiting my local video shop I've found Emperor finally has a release date in NZ, Aug 28 on DVD, in case you didnt know why this matters to me is that I actually did some extra work in this movie and it paid for my (r.i.p) Car :) Also learnt heaps about professional US film crews and how they work, so I'm soooo looking forward to seeing the finished product, I will definately share some screenshots when it comes out...

Chris at JKD let me know that this years Sanda tournament is on the 28th of September, since entries for this close September 15th I am waiting til the end of the month to see where I am fitness wise. I haven't really sparred since November 2012 which is ages ago, I've finally started going to a couple of classes this week after not training all year but most of that time was spent on perfecting my dummy form, I'm hoping this Wednesday I can mess around in the ring with someone and see where I'm at. I consider myself a martial artists than an actor but lately I've been feeling like ti's the other way around, I need to rectify this, I'm currently looking at fencing classes or some other martial arts so I can continue to develop my style/approach to combat so when I do my films its exciting but most importantly, realistic, wish me luck!!

Lastly, I hope to finally finish something, either a short film, or this web series or at least start on my feature film, I'm here to be an Action star, not a salesman. Lately I've been feeling anxious and fearful, I don't know if its cos of my job, or cos I haven't been fighting in a class environment all year (it was GKR that originally showed what was possible) or maybe its just always seeming broke but I don't like it, thats not me, I need to bring that confidence back, that swagger that I came to Auckland with, the attitude in me that used to yell out I can do anything, be anything and conquer anything. And do that there's not better time to start than now....watch this space ;)

Arnolds 5 rules for Success - By the Professor of Action :)

So, as I already mentioned in the earlier posts I had read his book before but hearing his story from the man itself when I was in Sydney really made me want to share some cool insights into being successful from one of the most successful individuals on the planet with you. I write them down here copied from my notebook summed up in a nutshell with my take on what he said -note I'm paraphrasing the quotes below - I can't write that fast haha, anyways I hope this helps you achieve your own goals and conquer your own kingdom :) I know these tips inspire me to achieve mine and one day soon you'll see me in theaters everywhere :)

Arnolds 5 rules for success

1. Find your vision and follow it.
Work 5-6 hours a day on your goal, always be hungry -aim to be number one and stay driven. While others had PHD's he said he was a Professor of Action :)
Pick a mentor, someone who has done what you are aiming to do,. Without a mentor you are just a boat in the ocean, floating without a purpose. His was Reg Park, a bodybuilder who played the original Hercules.
Every rep he used to do while working out was one rep closer to making his vision a reality, he liked to imagine each weight he lifted wasn't weights but trophies, and around him wasn't the gym, but an audience cheering him on. This is the same when he was acting and doing politics, each success leads on to more success.
When it came to stunt work on his films he didn't complain. He had to crawl on rocks for 7-8 takes in Conan so when he started bleeding, the director concerned asked him, "don't you feel pain?", Arnold replied, "No, The only thing I see is the finished scene, me, crawling over these rocks to chop Thulsa Doom's head off to the cries of my enemies and the lamentations of the women". He made the whole audience all laugh when he said that haha.
He also said that when he became Governor he said ,"California had a 100 year old sewer system, *pause* That's shitty I think."  and he redone the whole city, The man is an entertainer and gets the job done :)

2. Never ever think small.
He didn't want to be just a body builder, he wanted to be a champion. Not just an actor, but the highest paid superstar, and no, he didn't want to run for a measly councilman, he wanted to be The Governor of California. And he did.
Don't be afraid to fall, you are not that far off the ground so its not going to hurt at all, you only fail if you don't get back up.
He wanted California to grow, not just win the polls, but he wanted to see cranes everywhere, a city full of growth.

3. Ignore the naysayers.
When they said it was impossible, he heard, It's possible, When they said no, he heard yes.
He told a story of when he first wanted to be like his mentor Reg park and transition from being a bodybuilder to an actor, his agent told him 'Hey schwarzenschintzel, Your accent sucks, nobody wants to listen to that, your too big, and whats with the name? Who the hell can remember that? "( he acted this all out brilliantly by the way) He kept getting offered typecast roles of nazi officers, wrestlers and bouncers, Then he said to the crowd, The things that these sort of people said that would make him bad, ended up making him great. Bad Name? well now it's known the whole world over, Too big? It was his size that made him the ideal actor to play Conan and this was his big break, and the accent? Those three words "I'll be back" being famous worldwide from his Terminator movie was because of his ridiculous accent. He built his career on who he is, not what people say he should be like. So Ignore the naysayers.

4. Work your butt off.
Sleep 6 hours a day, then you still have 18 hours a day to do something, don't give excuses like you don't have time to read a book, do some exercise or work towards your goals. Read everyday.
Somebody once said to him, but how can I? I sleep for 8 hours? Arnold replied, 'Sleep faster'. Dude had me laughing so much..
He used to always work out, even when he was driving tanks while in the army, he used to put his dumbbells in his toolbox and take them out and work out on breaks :) wow.
Success breeds popularity.
Also gave some bodybuilding tips such as, reps until fail in every set, its how he grew so much. That to be a champion when you are working out, imagine you are inside your muscles, stretching and tensing, right down to the bone with each rep. Really feel each rep.

5. Don't just take, give back.
Tear down the mirror you spend so much time in front of and see the millions of people out there that need your help.  Eventually he brought his tank to America as he loved it so much and now drives it on a ranch for the amusement of kids in an after school program, and as much as he loves red carpets he's rather  play chess with a kid in an after school program. To this day hes still running the power lifting program for special needs and he's succeeded in his fitness crusade, now there are gyms all across the world in police stations, prisons etc. Now he wants to tackle the environmental crusade and so far so good :)
An audience member asks him what he does to relax? Arnold replied he loves his jobs and that itself is how he relaxes.

He finished off the speech with some audience questions and I learnt he s currently working on King Conan, Terminator 5 which shoots in January 2014 and Triplets with Danny Devito and Eddie Murphy. He quipped that its the funniest film that any of them have made since Twins. Haha :)  He also said some of our favorite lines, when an audience member quoted to him....'Dillon, you son of a bitch!...', Instead of reacting strongly, Arnold smiled and said, 'Get to the chopper'. It was sooo funny!
I had a great time at this conference and took away alot of fun lessons, so here's to applying them and I hope you can take something from this as well, Think Big!!! :)

Sydney and Schwazenegger, Thinking big!

Sydney!!!

I had been planning this trip since I first heard about it maybe November last year. 21st Century, which is an financial education group who help out investors and like minded people achieve their financial goals etc, were holding a conference in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney June 12-14. Though many self made millionaires and motivational guests would be there, One of the most famous guest speakers would be Arnold Schwarzenegger, Yes, the Terminator! and I would be there to meet one of the biggest influences in my action movie fan's life :)

I've watched almost all his movies (still havent yet seen his breakthrough staying hungry though haha) and relished his book, but It would be great to get some advice from the man in person into what makes him one of the planets most successful individuals.

I counted down the weeks, worked out the logistics and money and set off on my journey across the ditch to wallaby country the very next night after finishing my shift at work.  Woke up 5am and onboard the Air NZ flight to Sydney at 6.40am NZ time, whoosh....

My Air New Zealand flight was nice, and touching down in Sydney was a great feeling. I haven't been there since I was a kid, so seeing it with an adults eyes is a new experience.

After arriving in Sydney at 8.30am I took the train from the airport to the city so I could look around shops and kill time before checking in to my hotel, being a Double Decker train was pretty cool as well as seeing the Harbor bridge straight after stepping off.

The city has so much history, having 4.6 million people in one city is crazy, that's the population of us here in New Zealand as a country! The skyscrapers and modern buildings have swallowed the old brick churches and architecture that survive in this metropolis. Boy was it cold. The wind was biting cold, so much for warmer over the ditch, I missed Auckland weather haha. Settling into my hotel I explored the city, eager to find and discover things that would help me grow and achieve my goals.
The pics below are from the Cambridge hotel, a fair priced hotel, paying a little extra for a balcony was worth it as the view was nice, and how much safer could a hotel be with the Goulburn police station across the road? :)

I spent the rest of the day looking around and shopping :)

By the time Thursday came around I was so excited, I wondered what it would be like, what I would learn, if this trip was really worth coming all this way, I'll share what I learnt next post,  but below are some pics I took :)

The next 2 days I spent looking around Sydney and exploring its awesome shops and attractions, Photos below :)

My bank for the trip, it was so hard to find a bank that would give me an Eftpos card on signup instead of having to wait 5 days for a card, I was only in the country for 4 days, cmon guys, Thanks St George! Lifesaver :)

Check it out, Me at the Sydney opera house :)

The shopping malls were heaven. I love shopping, anyone I know would tell you this, I window shop mostly but I waste so much time making plans for stuff and generally just being curious, 5 floors, Yay! :) This photo was from Bondi junction mall, but darling harbour and Sydney city were just as exciting :)

This bookstore was fantastic, think borders 2.0, bigger selection, I could waste hours in here and probably did come to think of it...

I finished my trip with a relaxing afternoon at the Chinese gardens...check it out when you are next here, its very well done :)

After looking around the Paddy markets where I found the hard to find in NZ DVD Chinese zodiac of Jackie Chan (not out in NZ yet -by the way movie was awesome! last half hour Jackie Chan action heavy, so worth the wait :) yes!) I walked past these cops below, I kept thinking of Tony Jaa in the protector when he runs inside the convention center looking for his elephant :)

Anyway, the day had drawn to a close, I caught the train to the airport, had my last meal and headed back home full of goodies, mental notes, experiences and memories :)

Airplane food, was looking forward to this, and flying home with Qantas was dare I say better than with air NZ, better service for me this time around anyway...

When I rolled back in NZ Saturday midnight, wifey was happy to have me back and with her gifts...

And I with mine!!!! Burn notice seasons and Jackie chan finally! Also tagalog books so I can finally learn and Street fighter manga for my research project :)

So yeah, last of all here is my pic with Arnold, I have proof!!!

Schwarzenegger discovers his next Villian, Matt, vampire! Not proud of this photo (kinda am) but in my defense I had no idea this is what it looked like til a couple days later when I got my copy haha, guy took my photo when wasn't ready, I would have liked to smile more but yeah, great experience great trip and I look forward to sharing the things I learnt here next blog, hope you enjoyed this entry and inspires you to make things happen! :)

 Yess!!!
